Don Bolognese's birthday is September 6th. He is a first-generation Italian-American raised in New York City. While growing up, his family lived in an atmosphere of art and Italian culture. In the 1970s he and a friend traveled to Italy. The trip proved to be a personal and professional turning point. He says, "I always loved the Renaissance. I always loved to draw. I got in touch with my roots."
Bolognese has had homes in Landgrove and an apartment in New York City since 1960. Bolognese often jokes that he writes his books while waiting in his car for a parking place to open up.
"I don't consider myself a writer," he said. "Every single line I wrote, I was there visually. I could see the whole scene."
