British illustrator Nicola Bayley, who celebrates her birthday on August 18th, is well-known for her illustrations of books for very young readers: Bedtime and Moonshine: Lullabies and Nonsense, Book of Nursery Rhymes and the illustrations for Phyllis Root's All for the Newborn Baby. But it was the illustration of Gretchen Woelfle's Katje, the Windmill Cat for which Bayley was nominated for the Greenaway Medal in England. Judges commented on her attention to detail and color palette as well as the use of tiles to decorate the pages.
