Joanne Reisberg has degrees from the University of Minnesota and Macalester College and has taught second and third grades in Minneapolis and fourth and seventh grades in El Paso, Texas. She has published in a variety of genres from tongue twisters in Spider, a poem in the Wall Street Journal, a short fiction story in Children's Playmate, a nonfiction article about the Ancient city of Tulum in Appleseeds history magazine, an adult mystery in Wellspring, nonfiction in Once Upon a Time, and three alliterated poems from Wee Ones, the first online children's magazine, and soon a children's mystery in Hopscotch. Joanne has received a Certificate of Achievement award from Writer's Digest.

Her recent book, Save the Colors; A Civil War Battle Cry,.a middle-grade novel, is published by White Mane. An 1890 first edition, Minnesota in the Civil and Indian War, inherited from her greatgrandfather, was the inspiration for the book and the main source. Research at the Minnesota Historical Society and assistance from Stephen Osman, historian at Fort Snelling, provided a wealth of information.

Joanne leads a book club, is active in two critique groups, plays weekly tennis, belongs to SCBWI and Mysteries for Minors, and loves to read.

When 12-year-old Charley Olson hears President Lincoln's call for volunteers, he knows that he must join the fight to save the Union. Defying his family, he becomes a drummer boy for the First Minnesota Regiment.
